The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) is the second largest inter-governmental organization in the world - a 57 member-state organization that many Americans have never heard of. Only the United Nations is larger than this usually under the radar, but very important organization.
This week, the OIC will, in all likelihood, reintroduce a resolution to the U.N. Human Rights Council on "Combating Defamation of Religion." The title may seem less than threatening but the language the resolution contains is just plain dangerous to free speech. Since 1999, the OIC has introduced this non-binding resolution at the UN Human Rights Council and each time the resolution has passed with only slight modifications.
